Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre
The award-winning Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre (CRDT) redefines "performance ensemble" by fusing contemporary dance, live music and visual art onstage, creating multi-sensory excitement. Each concert focuses on a different segment of society and a different era, attracting ethnically diverse audiences.
Now, CRDT has become one of eight participants in the American Rhythm Center, an initiative led by the Chicago Human Rhythm Project. The effort, based in Chicago’s historic Fine Arts Building on Michigan Avenue, will produce the highest quality collaborative dance programs for the public, as well as classes and education programs, while allowing each participating company to retain its own identity and program schedule.
CRDT also is dedicated to outreach programs to show students in underserved communities how the arts can provide a formidable alternative to violence in conflict resolution. The formula includes in-school performances and the Cerqua Rivera Youth Ensemble, talented high school students who train, rehearse and perform with the adult company. CRDT was founded in 1996. www.cerquarivera.org
