Jacqueline Stewart
Founder and choreographer of Jaxon Movement Arts based in Chicago and New York, Jacqueline Stewart holds a B.F.A. in Contemporary Dance from The University of Iowa. Ms. Stewart is a native to the City of Chicago and began her dancing in 1987 under the direction of Maureen Murad. She performed for three seasons with Duarte Dance Works Contemporary Dance during her time at the University as well as for other faculty atists Deanna Carter, Jennifer Kayle and Dan Stark. In 2007 she returned to Chicago where she performed for The Seldoms and Thodos Dance Chicago. Stewart has showcased new works the past four years for Thodos Dance Chicago “New Dances” performance series. Jackie has also choreographed for Poetic Rebound Company, Open House Dance Chicago, Dance Chance Chicago, Chicago Takes Off, Harvest Chicago Contemporary Dance Festival and Duets for My Valentine. In April 2010, Stewart premiered a new work “It’s Not Enough to Close Your Eyes for Chicago’s Open Space Dance Project that became the Grand Prize Winner of The A.W.A.R.D. Show! 2010: Chicago granted by The Joyce Theatre Foundation. Ms. Stewart recently showcased her work and performed at the Joyce Soho, Jennifer Muller The Works and APAP 2012 in New York City. Jacqueline dances and choreographs in both New York City and Chicago and continues to build her choreographic work under her project-based company Jaxon.
