Maria Gillespie/Oni Dance

Maria Gillespie (Shorewood, WI), one of Dance Magazine's "25 to Watch" is the artistic director of Oni Dance, founded Oni Dance in 2005. Her choreography has been presented in LA at The Ford Amphitheater, The Getty Center, REDCAT, UCLA, The Fowler Museum, CalArts, Highways Performance and in New York City at Joyce SoHo and Wave Rising Festival, San Francisco, Mexico City, Beijing, and Tokyo. A professor at UCLA from 2002-1011 and has been guest faculty at universities including Loyola Marymount, CSU Long Beach, and CalArts. She is Assistant Professor of dance at UW Milwaukee. Gillespie was the honored recipient of grants from The Durfee Foundation, The Irvine Foundation Grant and four Lester Horton Awards for performance. She received her MFA in choreography from UCLA’s Department of World Arts & Cultures and her BFA in dance from SUNY Purchase.
